Ben practices in indirect tax and is one of the UK’s leading specialists in civil VAT fraud. He is a member of the Attorney General’s civil ‘B’ Panel.
Ben is currently instructed alone or leading in over £90 million of litigation, including some of the largest and most complex VAT and excise fraud cases before the First Tier Tribunal.
He has appeared before the Upper Tribunal, opposite Silk and one of his current cases is pending full hearing before the Court of Appeal.
Ben practices in heavyweight crime. He both prosecutes and defends.
He is a Grade 3 Prosecutor, on the CPS rape list and Fraud Panel (Level 2).
Past experience includes being instructed alone in a nine week historic child sex case and prosecuting numerous multi-handed matters.
Ben has appeared frequently before the Court of Appeal.
In 2003 Ben spent six months as an intern at the United Nations International Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). He worked on a number of cases including the trial of Slobodan Milosevic.
Ben was elected to Hackney Council in 2012, representing Hackney Central Ward. He is Vice Chair of Hackney’s Health Scrutiny Commission, sits on the Council of Governors at the Homerton Hospital and is a member of the Corporate Parenting Board.
Ben plays tennis and runs.
Ben is a member of the Criminal Bar Association.
