R v M – 2019

Rebecca Lee made a successful application to stay as an abuse of process a prosecution of allegations of historic child sexual abuse (dating to 1985) at Chester Crown Court.  There had been a contemporary investigation, in respect of which no records whatsoever had been retained. The Judge ruled that it would be impossible for the defendant to have a fair trial.

R v D – 2019

Neil Fitzgibbon instucted for a defendant who was accused of a conspiracy to “people smuggle” Albanian Nationals across the Channel from France. The defendant was acquitted.

R v El Asfari – 2019

Terence Woods and Edward Duncan-Smith instructed to defend in large scale immigration fraud involving links to Syria

R v J (Chelmsford Crown Court) – 2019

Tom Worden was instructed in a successful appeal against conviction for a domestic assault by beating on a former partner, where the complainant and a friend both gave evidence for the prosecution.

R v YE-A – 2019

Edward Duncan Smith was led by Terence Woods.  Acquittal for client accused of being involved in the operation of a large-scale counterfeit documents “factory” and associated money laundering. www.dailymail.co.uk/news

R v Francis – 2018

Peter Guest leading counsel and led junior cousenl Daniel Kersh for defendant, who laundered the proceeds of a housing benefit fraud in Op Vomerine

R v N (Sheffield Crown Court) – 2018-19

Tom Worden was instructed in a case where N was convicted after trial of possession of a firearm as a prohibited person (having previous convictions for preparing terrorist acts and possession of a firearm). He was sentenced to two years in prison following submissions in mitigation regarding his diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

R v S – Operation intrada- 2019

Grant Vanstone instructed in a trial lasting 6 weeks where the defendants were alleged to have conspired together with others in the importation of in excess £30 million of cocaine. 788kg were intercepted by the authorities from containers that were being moved through the London Container Terminal at Tilbury. The defendant was found to be not guilty.

R v J – 2019

Diana Pigot instructed as defence for a defendand charged with rape/sexual assault on three complainants. Law re cross admissibility fully researched and argued. Capacity to consent as all three complainants had been drinking was a key feature in the case.

R v Paffey – 2018

Richard Christie QC and Matthew Bagnall instructed to defend in murder following previous incident leading to on-going PTSD on part of D. Complex defences of self-defence, loss of control and diminished responsibility. Against Amjad Malik QC
